Assignment:
After reading, pretend you are J.R.R. Tolkien and write a letter to Peter Jackson telling him how well he portrayed your book, The Hobbit.
Respond to the following questions/prompts:
* What were the main themes in the book?
* Did he adequately convey those themes? Explain how he measured up and where he fell short.
* Compare characters, setting, and plot.
* What did Peter Jackson add that wasn't in the book? Were these good additions or not? Why or why not?
* What details of the book did he leave out of his movie trilogy? Was this an improvement to the story, or did he leave out important details? Why do you think so?
This letter should be at least 800 words long and should clearly demonstrate that you have both read the book and watched the movies.
